Dr Michael Englard
Michael holds a bachelor’s degree, masters degree, and PhD – all in English literature – from the University of Cambridge. After his studies, Michael remained at Cambridge for several years, serving as a Director of Studies and continuing to teach. He remains a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Michael is particularly interested in working towards systemic and institutional change in the Widening Participation sector. To this end, Michael co-founded the charity Causeway Education in 2012.
Causeway designs and delivers programmes to ensure that students from less privileged backgrounds get the support they need to produce outstanding applications to Higher Education. In their Academic Apprenticeship programme, 100% of students received at least one offer from a Russell Group university.
Michael is also a Committee Member of the Stephen Spender Trust, which aims to celebrate Stephen Spender’s achievements as a poet and translator, and as champion of the rights of creative artists and writers to free expression.
