Important LIS update

Last updated: Wednesday 8th January 2020

We’ve made the difficult decision to delay the launch of our three-year undergraduate programme until 2021. This means that we will not launch in 2020 as originally planned.

Through our discussions with the regulator, it’s become clear that it’s going to take longer than expected to progress through the regulatory process. One of the implications of this is that prospective LIS students would be unable to apply for Student Finance when making their final university choices this year.

We remain committed to offering a new and innovative approach to learning – teaching students the knowledge and skills they need to tackle complex real-world problems – and would love you to continue on this journey with us.

We want to say thank you for all the amazing support we’ve received from students, parents, teachers, and employer partners so far. This has been a hard decision; however, we want to ensure we have everything in place before students join LIS in 2021.

Applicants

You can choose to either defer or withdraw your application to LIS below. If you defer your application then we will consider you for 2021 entry.

Please note that this announcement will not impact your application to any other institutions (e.g. via UCAS).

Next steps

We’re certainly not putting the brakes on. We will continue to prioritise the regulatory process ahead of launching our undergraduate programme in 2021. We are also finalising our plans for 2020/21 which we will share with you over the coming weeks.

We understand that you may have further questions, some of which may be answered below. If your question is not answered then please book a call using the ‘Book a Call’ button.

General

Why is the regulatory process moving slower than expected?

We are doing something new and exciting in the Higher Education space. Because we’re new, it’s therefore clear that it's going to take longer than expected to progress through the regulatory process.

The regulator has been forthcoming and supportive in their partnership with us and we have a clear objective to secure regulatory approval for 2021.

When will you launch your undergraduate programme?

We are delaying our launch by a year so we will launch our undergraduate programme in 2021.

Will you have the regulation in place for a 2021 launch?

As this is a process which involves multiple stakeholders, we can’t make any firm guarantees. We have an experienced team working with the regulator and a clear objective to secure regulatory approval for 2021. We will make sure that you have all the information you need to make an informed choice and we will keep you updated via our website as we move through this process.

Given the importance of choosing where to study we advise that all students keep their options open and apply to other institutions alongside LIS.

How long have you known for?

We had lengthy discussions with the regulator just before Christmas, following which, we used the holidays to decide on our next steps. Given the importance of this announcement, we wanted to get in touch as soon as we possibly could after the holiday period.

What will you be doing in 2020?

We’re certainly not putting the brakes on. We will continue to prioritise the regulatory process ahead of launching our undergraduate programme in 2021.

We are also finalising our plans for 2020/21 which we will share with you over the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Sounds intriguing, how do I find out more information?

Can I defer my application?

Yes, you can. If you choose to defer your application to LIS, we will consider you for 2021 entry. Your application will essentially be 'on hold' until we resume our admissions process for 2021.
